School History

Meadowbrook began in 1890 with Miss Bridge's classes on Clark Lane in Waltham. The School moved to Weston in 1905 and was known as the Pigeon Hill School. Incorporated as a country day school for boys and girls in 1923, the School was renamed Meadowbrook and moved to its present site a year later.

Although Meadowbrook has grown over the years, it has remained intentionally small in keeping with the School's philosophy of providing an educational experience in which stages of development and differing learning styles are taken into account and in which the development of the whole child is the goal. Having two qualified teachers in each classroom through Grade 5 and small class sizes in Grades 6-8 makes an intimate educational environment possible. The children's exposure to specialists in math, science, computer, French, music, art, structures, pottery, and physical education gives breadth to their experience and, together with drama productions and interscholastic sports, offers many opportunities for exploring individual interests and building self-confidence.

"Meadowbrook maintains a superb balance between stretching students to their fullest potential while nurturing each student." - Meadowbrook Parent

At Meadowbrook, mutual esteem among students, faculty, staff, and parents is emphasized. Children learn to respect others and to accept one another's differences in accordance with the School's philosophy of educating children to participate in an ever more diverse society and world. An expectation of good manners and appropriate behavior supports our belief in mutual respect and assures our students that they are in a predictably safe and secure environment at Meadowbrook.
