Meadowbrook’s library is a place for meeting, a place for learning, and a place for fun.  Combining a traditional environment with new, progressive technologies and approaches, the library has more than 16,000 volumes and aims to be a virtual window onto the world.  Students rely on the library and our outstanding staff to find information through print books, audio/video and the World Wide Web.

Our library promotes self-awareness and development of the whole child. The youngest patrons learn to listen, follow directions and participate appropriately, while the oldest use the library to study, find sources, explore fiction and broaden their knowledge of quality literature.

Beyond simply helping students locate information, the library focuses on:

• Instilling a love of reading

• Critical thinking skills

• Just-for-me guidance – tailoring information resources to each student

• Pathfinders and wikis to encourage student dialogue

• Instruction and guidelines for plagiarism and respect for intellectual property

• Teaching students to assess source credibility and authority

• Partnering with teachers to create relevant and thoughtful projects

“Libraries are evolving so quickly,” says Audrey Borus, school librarian. “It’s not just about finding a book on the shelves anymore, it’s about helping students determine where to start. With the advent of the Internet, one of my responsibilities as a librarian is to help kids understand that what comes up on Google is not necessarily the best choice when you’re writing a research paper.

“This is a wonderful community for kids, and we know our readers. It is a thrill to buy them books I know they’re going to love, and then watch them read.”
