MathCounts® and Meadowbrook
MathCounts at Meadowbrook
In only three years, The Meadowbrook School MathCounts team has grown in popularity - from six students in
its inaugural year to an incredible twenty students in 2006-2007 (almost one-fifth of the middle school!).
Moreover, Meadowbrook's MathCounts team has met with increasing success year-over-year, having earned the
2006 Massachusetts MathCounts state championship in 2006.
Both the popularity and success of Meadowbrook's MathCounts team speaks to the excitement and enthusiasm
around mathematics and problem solving that has become part of the culture at Meadowbrook amongst its middle schoolers.
What is Mathcounts?
MathCounts is a national math enrichment program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement.

MathCounts at Meadowbrook
In 2004, Meadowbrook organized its first MathCounts team. Open to students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 who are
interested in mathematics and problem solving, the MathCounts team meets year-round as an academic elective
meeting once a week for about forty-five minutes. In the winter, the team begins competing against other
schools across the State in MathCounts meets. Though there is a competition aspect, the focus of the program
is in fostering an environment where students who share a common love of mathematics can work together
cooperatively in tackling challenging problems dealing with pattern recognition, number theory, geometry and more!
Intermediate Math League Competition
In addition to competing in MathCounts, Meadowbrook team members often choose to participate in the
Intermediate Math League Competition that occurs five times a year. The team travels to nearby schools
to take part in both individual and team rounds against other "mathletes."
