Mathematics

The primary goal of the mathematics program at the Meadowbrook School is to provide a strong foundation in mathematics via challenging courses that are appropriate to the age, abilities, and needs of our students. We are interested in empowering students so that in addition to being well-prepared for the mathematics they may encounter in future schooling or careers, our students will emerge from the program confident in their abilities to discover, learn and apply mathematics with an appropriate degree of independence. We hope that students will recognize and value the elegance and scope of the subject, and leave Meadowbrook excited by its power as a tool with which to better understand the world around them.

To directly support our program goals, mathematics instruction in the middle school occurs in small groups, organized by students' performance level: Regular, Honors, and Honors-Accelerated. As the population of Meadowbrook students is skewed toward the higher end of the scale of mathematical ability, all of our groups are challenging. In fact, all Meadowbrook students in the Regular, Honors, and Honors-Accelerated sections will complete a comprehensive course in Algebra I by the conclusion of 8th grade, with the Honors-Accelerated group finishing Geometry in addition to Algebra I.
