Science
Middle school science challenges students to become knowledgeable in three key areas: environment, life science, and physical science. It also helps them develop scientific habits of mind and to learn the skills they will need throughout their scientific careers.
In this age where humans face new challenges such as probable climate change and growing scarcity of resources, our students need an understanding of our relationship with the earth. The Environmental Science (ESI) curriculum is designed to expose students to concepts involving all of the earth's systems, how they affect humans, and how humans, in turn, affect the earth. ESI is an interdisciplinary course emphasizing general science and its applications to social studies. ESI's focus ranges from the global to the local. The life science curriculum is designed to give students a broad exposure to the biological sciences and to help young people see connections between biology and the real world. In this laboratory-intensive course, students work with a wide variety of apparatus and cover an extensive range of subject matter, acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to find success in high school biology.
The physical science curriculum gives students a beginning knowledge of physical science. Students work extensively on a variety of experiments, learning to work cooperatively and developing useful laboratory skills. The course provides an introduction to both chemistry and physics topics, identifies real world applications, and satifies the physical science course requirement expected of many high school science programs.
