Technology

Meadowbrook considers technology to be one of several educational delivery mechanisms in the school. In order to successfully implement this delivery mechanism we:

  • provide as much technology as necessary to fulfill curriculum defined requirements
  • provide school-wide Internet access
  • provide school/home communication through technology
  • fund professional development for all staff
  • maintain a school Webpage ()
  • use technology to further individualize learning
  • develop curriculum using multi-media
  • insure that all of our graduates possess the knowledge of technology that will enable their continued success in a variety of fields

Parameters that can be generalized for technology use at Meadowbrook:

  • Enrichment
Technology enriches the curriculum and does not drive it.
  • Problem Solving
Technology in the curriculum promotes problem solving and creativity.
  • Relevance, Pace and Challenge
Curriculum using technology and designed by vendors is carefully considered for the relevance, pace and challenge levels.
  • Accessibility/Applicability
Technology is accessible, easy to use, and applicable to a curriculum goal.
  • Higher Order Thinking
Technology in the curriculum enriches and enhances the teaching of particular skills and promotes higher order thinking.
  • Transfer
Programs should be based on learning theory and promote the transfer of knowledge from one domain to others.

The goal for the future will continue to be the integration of technology into the community according to the Mission Statement of Meadowbrook : individualization of student learning, continuation of a broad and challenging curriculum, the promotion of self-confidence, independence and unhampered learning.

Technology Currently in Use by Meadowbrook Students

Currently most of the software used at Meadowbrook comes under the heading of tools. When applying our strict criteria there are very few non-tool commercial packages that are appropriate for our curriculum. For classroom use, faculty employ document processing, graphics programs, research CD's, interactive books on CD-ROM, typing tutors, Terrapin Logo , student controlled simulations, some drill and practice programs, programs designed to teach a specific concept, mathematical tools, laser disks, presentation programs, and the Internet. Every classroom in the School is connected to the Internet through a T1 line.

Technology in Grades 6, 7 and 8

Both wireless and wired networking are used extensively, allowing students more flexibility in their use of technology. Smartboards and projectors in the classrooms provide faculty with state-of-the-art tools to help deliver efficient and effective instruction. More sophisticated video, audio, science and graphic tools are available to students for use in the creation of projects and presentations.
