Languages
Preparing our students with the intellectual and communication skills necessary for global citizenship is a primary goal of Meadowbrook's mission. Technology has the world shrinking faster than ever before, and as our interdependence increases, so must our abilities and awareness.
With this in mind, Meadowbrook begins modern language instruction (Spanish) in Junior Kindergarten. Learning a language should be fun as well as meaningful, with the main goal for students to communicate authentic needs. Language teaching is personalized so that students are learning the very things that they are most interested in communicating about to others. The classroom is a language-rich environment where children are immersed in Spanish. Students at this level will learn language naturally, through listening and watching first, then gradually gaining the confidence to begin to speak themselves. Some students are ready to jump right in the first day; others will need time to get comfortable. Either way is normal and acceptable. Singing, movement and role-playing make language meaningful for students and will be a part of everyday classroom activities
