Library
Meadowbrook has an incredible collection of children's books, meticulously categorized by degree of difficulty as well as by subject. Each week, every primary school student visits the library in groups of nine or twelve. During a typical library class, students will hear a new or exciting story read by the librarian, and will receive suggestions and directions for finding books of their interests and at appropriate reading levels. Students are encouraged to check out books every week, and are often given free reading time to explore the library and its holdings on their own. Fostering a love of books and reading is a top priority of the Primary School, and this is well supported by our engaging Library program.

Junior Kindergarten
In Junior Kindergarten, the children's first library experiences introduce them to books and stories through weekly read-alouds, often combined with puppets, acting, and story-related movement. Students also have the opportunity to look through a carefully selected collection of “early readers” and picture books, as they begin to strengthen an understanding of the connection between the stories they hear and the words on the pages.

Senior Kindergarten
In Senior Kindergarten, students have their first experiences choosing picture books and checking them out from the library, acquainting them with the process. These books are brought to the classroom and shared during each week. Weekly read-alouds also expose kids to a variety of picture books from many different cultures and genres.

Grade One
First graders visit the library weekly to check out books that support the classroom reading curriculum. Early reading books are color-coded to help guide students toward books written for appropriate reading levels. In addition, weekly read-alouds introduce both fiction and non-fiction books as well as a collection of “Noodlehead” stories, or fools tales, from a variety of cultures.

Grade Two
In Grade Two, students are introduced to longer chapter books and “trickster” tales from all over the world. In addition, they learn how to use library indexes, atlases, almanacs, and dictionaries. Their culminating project is awarding the "Moose Medal," when students review illustrations from a large collection of picture books and vote as a class on which illustrator to give their prestigious award.
