Project Challenge

Project Challenge is a dynamic teamwork and leadership program for our Middle School students that begins in 6th grade. It centers around Meadowbrook’s sophisticated high-ropes course in Grinker Gym, elevating students – literally and figuratively – and challenging them to work together as a team. Project Challenge emphasizes:

Teamwork. Sixth-graders focus on communication, collaborative planning, decision-making, and how to give and receive feedback as they participate in the ropes course for the first time.

Human Relationships. Pairs, small groups, whole group – the dynamics of human relationships are explored in 7th grade. Students are challenged to create an inclusive atmosphere characterized by trust, support and appreciation of their peers. Relationship-building is viewed through the lens of historical events, diversity and personal experiences.

Personal Growth. Personal growth drives the 8th grade students as they set goals and work toward accomplishing them within the inclusive, supportive environment created the previous year. Students are given opportunities to learn about themselves, and they write personal mission statements as a culminating activity. All the skills learned since 6th grade— the technical skills of climbing, spotting, and belaying, and the interpersonal skills of problem-solving and peer support — help our 8th grade students meet or exceed their individual goals prior to graduation.
