Student Support Services

Children are unique in their interests, expression, and academic and social/emotional development.  At Meadowbrook, we recognize and are committed to supporting the individual needs of all our students.  To meet that need, the school has a range of both full-time and consulting specialists including two Reading Specialists, an Occupational Therapist, Reading and Math Tutors, and a School Counselor and School Psychologist.  Coordinators for Student Support Services for Grades JK-4 and Grades 5-8 oversee these specialists for the school.  All Student Support Service providers collaborate closely with students, parents and other faculty when appropriate.

Academic Student Support Services: Learning Lab

The Learning Lab provides reading and academic support to children in grades JK-8 and serves as a resource to teachers to help them better understand their students.  Staffed by two full-time Reading Specialists, the goal of Learning Lab is to help all Meadowbrook students achieve their best by providing supplementary education in the areas of reading, spelling, writing, study, and organizational skills.  Depending on the need, students may attend Learning Lab one to three days a week where they receive one-on-one instruction in a quiet, supportive setting.  Learning Lab teachers work closely with team teachers, division heads, advisors and specialists to help identify and service those students who would benefit from extra support.

Social and Emotional Student Support Services

One of Meadowbrook’s Core Values is that we “emphasize the mental, physical, emotional, social and ethical development of the whole child.”  We show our commitment to our students' “whole child” emotional, social and ethical development through our relationships with our students and parents, and through our diverse social-emotional curricula offerings such as Open Circle, Project Challenge, Advisory, Buddies, and Human Growth and Development.  For students who need additional support in these areas, we have two consulting mental health professionals as part of our Student Support Services: Alan Wyatt, Psy.D., and Sarah Williamson, LCSW.  For more information, please see our faculty and staff directory.
