At Meadowbrook, technology is embedded within our curriculum, used by our teachers as a tool to facilitate learning, and taught to our students to foster exploration and discovery. Technology at Meadowbrook is more than just learning applications on a computer. It's building and then programming robots to perform specific tasks. It's manipulating three-dimensional figures on a screen to promote spatial reasoning. It's building a website about one of the 50 United States to present to other fourth graders.
Throughout the Meadowbrook journey, our students develop an increasing comfort with technology, using the countless technology resources available to them.
Bee-bots — Beginning in Junior Kindergarten and continued through First Grade, our robotics program challenges students to program Bee-bots to move forward, backward, left, and right, developing students' problem-solving, counting, estimating, and sequencing skills.
Terrapin Logo — Building from the programming skills learned with Bee-bots, second graders employ basic programming commands using Terrapin Logo to create unique shapes and drawings, challenging their logic and mathematical skills.
Lego Mindstorms NXT — Students in Fourth and Fifth Grade continue with robotics building and programming using Lego Mindstorms NXT, combining computer programming with Lego brick-building and motors, sensors, gears, axels, and beams.
Mavis Beacon Typing — Beginning in First Grade, students are taught traditional typing skills.
GarageBand and Final Cut — Middle School students express their creativity, editing movies using Final Cut and mixing music using GarageBand. Students can also record and mix music using Meadowbrook's state-of-the-art music mixing lab. ?
One-to-One Laptop Program — All Meadowbrook Middle School Students are equipped with a laptop enabling unparalleled collaboration with students and teachers.
Computers — Meadowbrook has a Mac Lab and PC Computer Lab and a 20-laptop cart-to-classroom unit. Beginning in Kindergarten, students are introduced to language arts, mathematics, and problem-solving applications as well a how to use a mouse and keyboard.
Classrooms — Meadowbrook classrooms are equipped with computers, projectors, SMART boards and Internet access.
