Woodworking
Meadowbrook proudly boasts a large wood shop with tools and materials appropriate for all age ranges. Classes are taught in small groups and under close supervision. Students begin taking woodworking in Junior Kindergarten, where they gain exposure to the new environment and take ownership of the many safety rules and regulations. They learn to use a few basic hand tools and receive a general introduction to the building process. In Senior K, students develop fundamental skills and apply them to various small wood projects. First graders improve their skills and confidence while successfully using hand tools to build their own class projects. As students grow in age and ability, so does the complexity of their projects and the tools and methods they use. By the time Fifth Grade woodworking is completed, students have learned to plan, design, and construct projects with particular attention to finishing details.
