Rock Band
Rock ensemble is split into two parts. First, students learn how to play established rock and roll music written and performed by the leading musicians in the field. Often called 'covers', learning to play the music that has influenced the current generation of musicians is an invaluable learning tool. The goal is that students will begin to learn how to play other tunes on their own and eventually develop their own style of playing, writing, and arranging. Second, students are challenged to compose their own music in a group setting. This includes: chord progressions, bass lines, drum beats, arranging, formal elements, and how to compromise with the other members of the group. In this way, students are challenged to not only polish their technical skills, but are asked to work as team to accomplish group-established goals.
