Volunteering Opportunities
Parents' Council Volunteer Opportunities: 2008-2009
The Most effective means of getting to know Meadowbrook and the children is right here! There are many opportunities all with different levels of time committment. Please consider getting involved in the Meadowbrook Community this year. Everyone will benefit from your participation.
Gift Wrap Sale - Volunteer to help distribute wrapping pater and other goodies to each recipient when the supplies come in. Orders are taken both online and through a catalog distributed to the children in the fall. Orders online can be made throughout the year and benefit Meadowbrook's Understanding Differences program.
Octoberfest- Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This annual fall get together that is fun for the whole school community complete with games provided by our middle school students. We need volunteers to help flip burgers, set up and clean up.
Admissions Open Houses - Volunteers are needed to answer questions, give tours and assist where needed at Meadowbrook's open houses this fall. This is your chance to be an ambassador for the school. Open house dates for 2008 are Tuesday, October 28 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and Sunday, November 2 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Lantern Festival - Saturday, November 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. An entire school celebration of family and culture. Volunteers needed to help organize and staff this fun community event. Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day- Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 8:00 to 11:15 a.m. Enjoy the Thanksgiving assembly with our honored guests, and then remain at school to help serve refreshments and escort our visitors to the classrooms. Please note that volunteers must be available from the start of th assembly until 11:15 a.m.
Pick-A-Perk/Faculty Appreciation - Pick-A-Perk distributes prizes to our well deserving faculty and staff. Parents donate gifts, vacation home stays, and tickets to events, etc. Volunteers may be asked to solicit and coordinate these contributions for an early December drawing. The Faculty Appreciation Committee also helps coordinate the faculty lunch accompanying the gift distribution. Family Bingo Night - Friday, January 23, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. This evening is a community event open to parents, students, and siblings. Bingo games are played, dinner is served, and middle school students are on hand to baby-sit! Volunteers needed to help plan, set up, coordinate or clean up this family event.
Understanding Differences- A unique opportunity to participate in the classroom. This long running program is a crucial part of the curriculum, helping our children in grades 2 through 5 better understand people living with disabilities. Each child learns firsthand from a special speaker or visitor. Orientation and two mornings with students are required. - Grade2 : Visually Challenged - Grade 3: Hearing Impaired - Grade 4: Physically Challenged - Grade 5: Mentally Challenged
Parents’ Gala- Saturday, April 4. Our biggest FUNdraiser of the year includes dinner, dancing, and an auction. Volunteers needed for all aspects of this event including but not limited to planning, shopping, decorating, advertising, soliciting and collecting donations, set up, clean up, and much more. Spring Family Picnic - Saturday, May 16 from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. Come help celebrate spring by volunteering for this all school celebration of the impending warm weather. The rowboats are in the pond, food is served and fun activities are thre for everyone. Come help staff the boats, cook up some food, set up and clean up.
Brookbinder- The school's literary publication produced in the spring. Volunteers experienced in word processing needed at the end of the school year to edit and assemble the students’ art and creative writing.
Middle School Social Events - Help plan fun extracurricular social events for the middle school students.
Meadowboutique - Help with the sale of Meadowbrook insignia items at school functions or work behind the scenes preparing souvenir gifts, managing inventory, shopping or perusing catalogues for novel items.
Library - There are many waysto help support the Meadowbrook library, through the birthday book program, helping to organize and bring in speakers, lending a hand at the book fair, or helping sort and shelve books.
M-Life - Meadowbrook's online newletter to keep us all abreast of the goings-on in and around the school. Looking for writers, photographers, editors, and anyone interested in bringing the Meadowbrook campus life into families' homes via stories, interviews and points of interest.
Room Parents for the 2009-2010 Academic Year- Responsibilities vary with each grade. School wide duties include maintaining class funds, scheduling conferences, class emails, and organizing several class social functions. A detailed list of responsibilities for each grade is available upon request
