Equity & Inclusion

At Meadowbrook, we believe in multicultural education as an essential aspect of good teacher practice, and our program is known as one of the best in the country. Multiculturalism is how diversity plays out in the classroom: strands of history, art, and tradition are woven through lessons to give children perspective and understanding. On an individual and social level, we engage all students to explore their self-awareness as it relates to identity.


Our All Working at Racial Equity (AWARE) curriculum was first implemented at Meadowbrook in 2012. As part of the school's social-emotional learning program, AWARE helps children feel comfortable talking about race and ethnicity and exposes them to varying backgrounds and perspectives.


Since the school community extends beyond the students, we offer unique evening programs like Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) to faculty and parents each year. SEED asks questions about class, religion, race, and other aspects of an individual's identity in a complex world.


Meadowbrook Students of Color (MSOC) is an affinity group for children of color. Depending upon the student's age, MSOC lunches take place either weekly or bi-weekly and give children an opportunity to talk with each other in a safe, supportive environment. Meadowbrook’s commitment to multicultural curriculum is evidenced by our founding of the Multicultural Teaching Institute (MTI), an annual conference that takes place here in the summer and draws attendees from all over the world.
